One of my personal favorites of the year—and, wouldn’t you know it, Whisky Advocate just so happened to agree, giving this gem a 94 and naming it the 5th best whiskey of 2024. I’m not saying I have great taste… but it’s nice when the professionals finally catch up!
Palate: The high rye content doesn’t just “show up”—it kicks the door down like it owns the place. Rye spice, white pepper, and baking spices all start a bar fight for your attention, and honestly, nobody’s winning because you’re just enjoying the chaos. Cinnamon stick tries to play peacemaker while a stern, tannic oak sits in the corner, judging everyone. Then, just when you think it’s all spice and oak drama, a grilled glazed peach strolls in like, “Hey, relax, I brought dessert.”
Finish: It starts sweet—like a polite handshake of brown sugar—but that doesn’t last. The rye spice comes charging back with backup from peppery oak and a leathery sidekick, ready for round two. Cinnamon makes a quick cameo, then fades like a cowboy riding into the sunset. What’s left? A dry, spicy heat that hangs around just long enough to make sure you remember it… kind of like your favorite bad decision.
