This whisky is the result of Nick Offerman and Lagavulin spending 11 years in a committed relationship. Then, in a fit of romantic spontaneity, they tossed it into heavily charred casks that used to hold either Scotch or red wine.
The nose greets you like a burly handshake — smoky peat, red berries, brine, and enough chocolate to make you question your self-control. You might also get seaweed, which is fine, because seaweed is simply ocean bacon.
The palate is robust — creamy vanilla, toasted oak, sweet berries, cocoa, and a spicy warmth that reminds you you’re still alive. The peat is there, but it’s polite. Like a large man in a tuxedo who says “after you” before throwing you through a saloon door.
The finish lingers like a loyal dog at your feet: warm, a little spicy, and faintly sweet. Perfect for drinking next to a fire while contemplating which of your enemies deserves forgiveness.
Approachable? Yes. Balanced? Yes. Would Ron Swanson approve? You’re damn right he would.
