The Dalmore 14 is the kind of dram that struts into the bar wearing a velvet jacket and smelling faintly of old money and Christmas pudding. Starts its life in bourbon barrels, all polite and vanilla, then about half of it gets whisked away to Pedro Ximénez sherry casks in Spain — like sending a well-behaved lad on a two-year holiday in the Costa del Booze. Comes back all tanned, sweet, and dangerously charming.
On the tongue? You’re getting dried apricot, dark berries, rum raisin — it’s basically a posh fruitcake that decided to learn about cocoa and orange peel. And the finish… ah, it’s wine-kissed, with grape skins, dark chocolate, and just enough spice to keep you warm without causing trouble. One fella swore he got maple syrup coating his mouth, and I believe him — though he might’ve been nicking pancakes in between sips.
It’s indulgent, balanced, and classy — the kind of whisky you share with friends, or drink alone while pretending you’re in a leather armchair somewhere fancy.
