The Dalmore 18 is a drink for evenings when the fish aren’t biting, the typewriter’s jammed, and you’ve already shot the breeze with everyone worth talking to.
It starts clean in bourbon casks — all vanilla and honey, like a promise you know can’t last — then takes a long vacation in thirty-year-old sherry wood from Spain, where it picks up orange zest, hay, and enough prune and fig to make you think about calling your doctor.
The taste? It’s full-bodied — spice, red currant, cherries that went a little wrong, and salted tangerine. Wood everywhere, like you woke up in the hull of a ship you forgot you bought.
The finish is dry, coffee and cream, with a bitterness that makes you smile because it’s earned. Like an old friend who still owes you money but tells a damn good story.
You don’t drink this to get drunk. You drink it because it’s good, and because tomorrow you might be out of luck — and worse, out of whisky.
