The Macallan Harmony Collection Vibrant Oak — the fourth one in the series and this one’s a love letter to oak trees, though to be fair, most whiskies already spend more quality time with oak than your average lumberjack.
On the nose, it greets you with vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sponge cake — so far, so fine — before taking a hard left into lime, bergamot, yoghurt cream, and green tea. Aye, yoghurt. It’s like your whisky just signed up for a wellness retreat in the Highlands. By the time the pear juice and almonds show up, you’re wondering if you should drink it or pour it over breakfast granola.
On the palate, it’s light, with ginger, aniseed, liquorice, and rhubarb, which sounds suspiciously like the contents of a Victorian sweet shop that also sells cough remedies. Lemon cream, lime, marzipan, gooseberry, and blackcurrant join in, along with toasted hazelnut and a touch of wood — basically, it’s like a fruit orchard fell into a bakery.
The finish? Short. The whisky equivalent of a Scottish goodbye — quick, polite, and leaving you wondering where it went. You’re left with spice, pear, liquorice, vanilla, and a wee bit of wood, as if the dram just waved cheerio and slipped out the back door.
Overall: A charming dram with more twists than a ceilidh dance, but don’t blink — it’s gone before you’ve had time to compliment it.
