Another cask strength whiskey that’s supposed to punch me in the throat and steal my wallet. Except… it doesn’t.

Nose: Dark fruit right away — black raspberry, plum — like it’s auditioning for a dessert menu. Vanilla and toffee float in behind it. And here’s the part that messes with you: it’s light.Light. At cask strength. It’s like meeting a guy covered in skull tattoos who turns out to collect teacups.

Palate: Plum and dark cherry take center stage again. Black raspberry hangs around because apparently we’re committed to the berry theme.

Then baking spices show up — cinnamon, warm pie crust, that cozy “someone’s grandmother knows how to cook” vibe. Vanilla custard slides in and suddenly this is less whiskey tasting and more “did I just wander into a bakery?” It’s abundantly sweet. Rich. But somehow not cloying. The proof brings intensity, sure — but it’s controlled. Like it could flip a table, but instead it politely declines..

Finish: Peppery spice. Cinnamon. Raspberry jam. Brown sugar. A short finish especially for a cask strength but it works. It doesn’t overstay its welcome. It doesn’t lecture you about oak structure. It just says, “cool” and exits stage left.

Overall: Volume 01 is the most unintimidating cask strength whiskey I’ve met. It has all the richness and higher-proof muscle, but it’s surprisingly vibrant and easy drinking. Dark fruit, vanilla custard, brown sugar — sweet-leaning, balanced, approachable.

If someone told me they didn’t like this, I’d assume they also complain about puppies.
