It is part of the Van Winkle brand but technically only the 15, 20, and 23 say Pappy on the label under Pappy Van Winkle. Call it what you want but just like anything Pappy, Lot B is the bourbon equivalent of that friend who’s effortlessly charming, expensive, and impossible to get a hold of.
Nose: Sweet and buttery with caramel, vanilla, and cherries. It’s the kind of aroma that makes you momentarily forget you paid your rent to a landlord who doesn’t even know what oak smells like.
Palate: Rich and smooth. Toasted nuts, toffee, cinnamon—all rolling in like well-mannered guests who know exactly when to leave the conversation to the fruit. Fruit-forward, cherry-heavy, and sweet, it’s approachable enough to lull you into a false sense of confidence… until you remember the price tag.
Finish: Long, elegant, and reminiscent of top-shelf cognac. It has the right amount of oak and wheated sweetness to feel luxurious, without ever getting aggressive. The kind of finish that pats you on the back and whispers, “Yes, you’re drinking something very special… and very expensive.”
Overall: Lot B is charming, smooth, and dangerously easy to sip. Lacks deep complexity? Sure—but who needs that when you’ve got a bourbon this polished, this approachable, and this gloriously unattainable?
It’s basically a high-class tease in a bottle: seductive, satisfying, and frustratingly out of reach. Buy it if you can. Or cry quietly in your Weller 12.
